Since around 5000 BCE, humans have been playing games of chance, rolling dice made of bone, wood, or stone. By 2000 BCE, the Romans were playing Backgammon. In 2012, International Tabetop Day was first celebrated, recurring every year on the first Saturday in June.
This day is a wonderful opportunity to try out a new game, get out a beloved game, or play in an online setting with friends. In anticipation of the day, Board Game Matrix recorded two stories to acknowledge the 6 tabletop games that have arrived on the scene this year to much fanfare. These tabletop games have been acknowledged on the Spiel des Jahres website for their excellence.
